Nick Gibb, MP for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton, has been re-appointed as a Minister of State at the Department for Education in Theresa May's new government.
Nick Gibb said: "I am delighted to have been appointed as a minister in Theresa's May' new administration and to be able to continue the work of improving academic standards in our schools. Ensuring every pupil leaves primary school as an accomplished reader and fluent in arithmetic is vital if young people are to thrive at secondary school. And we need to ensure that every young person leaves secondary school with the knowledge and skills they need to flourish in an increasingly demanding and competitive jobs market or ready and prepared for an apprenticeship, further or higher education. The Government's goal of improving social mobility starts with our education system.
"Over the last six years the reform programme has been extensive with 1.4 million more children in schools rated good or outstanding than in 2010."
Nick Gibb was first appointed as Minister of State for Schools in May 2010 in David Cameron's Coalition Government. He was replaced by David Laws in the September 2012 reshuffle but returned as Minister for School Reform in July 2014. Following the 2015 General Election, Nick Gibb was appointed as Minister of State for Schools in David Cameron's majority Conservative Government.
