At the invitation of Harbour Master, Harry Gregory, Nick Gibb joined the leader of both West Sussex County Council (Paul Marshall) and Arun District Council (Shaun Gunner) to see first hand the serious issues regarding the structures, wall and groyne at the Littlehampton Harbour entrance.
The structures are, in places, over 100 years old and are increasingly not fit for purpose. The Harbour Master set out the plans the Harbour Board has, both in the immediate term and long term, to repair and improve the structures.
Nick Gibb said: “The River Arun and the Harbour are key features and attractions for Littlehampton. The leisure craft that use the river and its moorings are important both for the character of the area and the commercial revenue they generate.
“It is therefore hugely important that the entrance to the Harbour and the river is kept clear and the structures that keep the entrance clear and safe are maintained and improved.
“Both council leaders and myself as the local MP will continue to work with the Harbour Board to ensure our community can continue to enjoy this wonderful amenity.”
