A dozen Sussex Members of Parliament, old and new, came together under the shadow of the Elizabeth Tower at the House of Commons, to celebrate Sussex Day today.
Sussex Day takes place on St Richard's Day, the feast day of St Richard of Chichester, Sussex's patron saint. The idea of Sussex Day came from Worthing resident Ian Steedman who in 2006 suggested the idea to then West Sussex County Council leader Henry Smith now MP for Crawley. The Council subsequently officially recognised the day in 2007.
East Worthing & Shoreham MP Tim Loughton organised the event to bring together colleagues from across the political spectrum to show support for this celebration of Sussex.
