Nick Gibb MP visited St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Bognor Regis as part of their lessons about Parliament.
Prior to the visit the school had held ballots in individual classes on various issues including; whether the school should have a school uniform (yes 6 votes no 22 votes); should there be non uniform days on Friday (yes 20: no 9); more play time (yes 20; no 9); a change to school times (yes 7; no 20); sweets and fizzy drinks allowed at lunchtime (yes 17; no 6); get rid of homework (yes 15; no 14); increase homework (yes 5; no 18).
Mr Gibb also held a whole school assembly about the work of an MP and how laws are made, and had a discussion with the school council.
Nick Gibb said: “St Mary’s is a good school where children are engaged with their studies and work hard. Pupils seemed to know a lot about Parliamentary democracy and were keen to know more. A very enjoyable visit to an impressive school. “
