Nick Gibb MP met the Governor of HMP Ford, Stephen Fradley.
Ford is a Category D prison currently with 544 prisoners. It has an emphasis on resettlement and only accepts prisoners in the last two years of their sentence or those allocated to an open prison by the Parole Board.
Ford does not accept offenders with current or previous convictions for sexual offences.
Ford expects a strong work ethic as it is preparing prisoners for life after release. Work opportunities within the prison include land-based activities, dry lining, stores, call centres and other work. External work is varied and strictly controlled.
Nick Gibb said: “Ford is an important local institution that provides highly skilled work for people in the Littlehampton area.
“The prison is increasingly successful in reducing re-offending rates by ensuring prisoners gain valuable work experience and life skills to help them succeed when they are released. The education provided is also of increasing quality. “
