I have supported Yapton residents’ objections to a major housing plans since 2013.
The draft Arun District Council Local Plan allocates 100 new homes for Yapton Parish over the Plan period. The Yapton Neighbourhood Plan has identified and agreed in conjunction with landowners, sites which amount to 106 new homes within the Neighbourhood Development Plan. At no time, were the sites that have been proposed by developers put forward for consideration by the Neighbourhood Plan Group, a group of local volunteers who, together with the Parish Council, spent hundreds of hours working on the Plan.
The application for houses south of Ford Lane was called-in in December 2014 and overturned by the Secretary of State in September this year following my support for the Parish Council’s bid for the application to be called-in because of its departure from the Neighbourhood plan.
There has also been a more recent application for 108 houses off the Burndell Road in Yapton which local residents and I are concerned about. In June, I wrote to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government in support of the Parish Council explaining that the application is a complete departure from the Neighbourhood Plan. This application has now also been called-in and the Secretary of State is considering whether the application should be able to go ahead.
